A Rainy Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Papa, Mummy is saying don\u2019t go out. It is raining.\u2019 Niva complained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018She says if you get wet in the rain you will catch cold.\u2019 Niva said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018What she says is right.\u2019 Papa said. Niva was disappointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018But if you don\u2019t get wet, you won\u2019t fall sick. Wear your rain coat and bring my umbrella.\u2019 Papa said. Niva\u2019s face glowed with excitement.  She went inside and came out with her pink raincoat. Papa helped her to button it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both of them went out. It was drizzling. Papa opened the umbrella. Holding it in his one hand, he held Niva\u2019s hand with another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Would you also walk in the rain when you were a child?\u2019 Niva asked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Yes, of course. I had a nice umbrella. It had colours of the rainbow. I would rotate it and prance in the rain.\u2019 Papa said. He rotated the rod of the umbrella and Niva smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They walked on the road. Water had gathered at a few places thereby forming a pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Don\u2019t step into the pool of water.\u2019 He said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018But I like to walk in it.\u2019 Niva replied. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Why do you say that one shouldn\u2019t walk in the pool of water?\u2019 Niva asked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018That is because the rain water carries all the dirt on the road with it. But now that you are wearing gum boots you can have some fun in the pool.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Did you have gum boots when you were a child?\u2019 Niva asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018No. I would wear slippers. You know when you walk in the slush with slippers, it splashes mud on your clothes.\u2019 He said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Then would your mother scold you for making your clothes dirty.\u2019 Niva asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018No.\u2019 Papa replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018What else would you do in the rain?\u2019 Niva asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018We would make paper boats and leave them into the flowing water.\u2019 He replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018I too want to make boats of paper.\u2019 Niva said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018I knew you would say so,\u2019 Papa said and removed a bunch of papers from his pocket.  Niva and her papa made boats of the paper and left them into the water flowing on the road. The boats happily waded through the water. Niva clapped on seeing it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018My mother would make nice, crispy crackers when it rained.\u2019 He said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018My mouth is watering. Let us go home and make some crackers.\u2019 Niva said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Yes, but you will have to help me in the kitchen.\u2019 Papa said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018I will peel the onions.\u2019 Niva said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018I will fry the crackers and make some tea too. Let your mother have some rest today. She works all the time.\u2019 Papa said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On their way back home, Niva pointed to the sky. \u2018Papa, rainbow.\u2019 She said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Even I enjoyed rainbow in my childhood.\u2019 He said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Is it the same rainbow which you saw in your childhood?\u2019 Niva asked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Papa smiled. They went home. Leaving their wet raincoats and umbrellas on the stand outside, they went inside the house. They enjoyed the rainy day with crackers and piping hot cup of tea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
